I used varnish on the pamments in my kitchen, as I wanted a completely waterproof (and hopefully anything-proof) finish. I have spilt red wine, butter, tomato ketchup, a whole range of things on the floor, and the varnish has coped very well; everything has just wiped off easily - all of this by way of deliberate experiment, I hasten to add. I had to change a printer cartridge - magenta. I carried the spent cartridge through the kitchen and put it into the bin. It was a couple of minutes later that I realised that magenta ink had leaked out - all over the kitchen floor. I quickly got out a sponge and kitchen paper and cleaned it all up in a minute or so - no marking at all. I was really pleased, and felt completely vindicated as I (rather smugly) disposed of the kitchen paper and sponge. My satisfaction was short-lived, and it took me another minute to realise that I must have stepped in the ink, so, no sooner had I cleaned it up, than it reappeared. Cleaned not only the floor, but my hand and foot (socks and jeans sadly ruined). In short, Gap jeans and M&S socks can't cope with magenta printer ink, but Sadolin varnish can. |
